Rose V. Johnson, freelance musician and flute pedagogue, resides in Seattle, Washington. Ms Johnson is an avid chamber musician, lending her skills to several professional ensembles including Compass Winds, Peregrine Rose Trio, and The Ladies' Quintessential Quintet. She has also held principal flute positions with Northwest Symphony and Ensign Symphony, served on the board of Seattle Flute Society in various positions, and served on the National Flute Association Performance Health Committee.
In addition to maintaining a full performance schedule regionally and nationally, her teaching studio garners respect throughout the Pacific Northwest. She began mentoring flute students at a very young age. With effective flute pedagogy as a central focus of her career, Ms. Johnson teaches students of all ages. Her teaching philosophy of providing a well-rounded and fundamental-based learning experience that promotes physical, emotional, and mental health sets her apart as a master teacher. Her expertise is also in demand as a clinician in higher education, youth ensembles, and school outreach programs.
Ms. Johnson's passion for promoting music and arts in the community led to the foundation of Collaborative Musicians' Project. As founder and executive director, she guides all efforts to support professional chamber ensembles, run a full-season youth ensemble program, and offer community and school outreach support services.
As a musician-advocate, Ms. Johnson is passionate about projects that support music education and underrepresented musicians. She seeks out ways to engage composers and collaborators from marginalized groups, with the hope of using her platform to provide opportunity for others. Ongoing projects focus on collaborating with Mary Watkins, Adrienne Albert, Kari Medina, and other composers.
Ms. Johnson began playing flute at age 8, and started formal training at the age of 14, with Erich Graf of the Utah Symphony. She continued her studies under the mentorship of Philip Swanson, receiving her Bachelor of Music in Flute Performance from Northern Arizona University. She received a Master of Music in Flute Performance from University of Washington with Felix Skowronek. She has also earned a Master of Arts degree in Music Industry from Azusa Pacific University. Ms. Johnson is a Performance Artist for William S. Haynes Flute Company.
